Dig into National Gardening Week at Wellington Place

It’s National Gardening Week, aka, a perfect excuse to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty and celebrate all things green and growing. This year’s theme is all about supporting new and beginner gardeners, with a special focus on starting your first outdoor garden and nurturing your green journey from the ground up.

At Wellington Place, we’re big fans of bringing a little nature into the everyday. From blooming community spaces to buzzing beehives, here are just a few ways you can get stuck in and celebrate National Gardening Week with us…

Visit the Community Patch

Say hello to our Community Patch, a shared garden space created in partnership with Incredible Edible and Ahead Partnership located in Tower Square.

Designed to bring homegrown goodness into the heart of Wellington Place, the patch features native herbs and vegetables and was planted by pupils from Victoria Primary Academy.

Pop by and see what’s sprouting! You’ll find everything from leafy greens to fragrant herbs and it is a great reminder of what a little bit of care and compost can do.

Beekeeping Workshops

Did you know Wellington Place is home to its very own buzzing bee colony? Since 2008, we’ve looked after a hive of Apis Mellifera bees.

Every year, we host beekeeping workshops for our community, offering a rare chance to suit up, get up close with the bees and learn more about their vital role in our ecosystem. With bee populations under threat, there’s never been a more important time to protect these little pollinators. Our next workshops are:

  • May 20 & 22 May – 12pm-1pm & 1.30pm – 2.30pm, click here for more info.

Urban Gardens

Tucked away behind 11&12 Wellington Place, our Urban Gardens are a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the workday, and they’re doing more than just looking pretty. Teams from JLL, Arup, Lloyds Banking Group and others use these allotments to grow their own produce and reconnect with nature.

Rebecca, who looks after the Government Legal Department’s plot, said: “The urban garden serves as a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of work and city life. We’re encouraging colleagues to visit on their lunch breaks and take advantage of the garden with 1-2-1 meetings with colleagues promoting wellbeing and connection to nature.”

From tomatoes to thyme, or simply soaking up a moment of calm, the gardens are a great reminder of the power of planting. All are currently in use, however find out more here.
