Interview with Charlotte Farrington, CEO and founder of Yorkshire Children’s Charity
This holiday season, Wellington Place is proudly supporting Yorkshire Children’s Charity (YCC) through a range of festive activities. YCC is on a mission to make things better for young people living at a disadvantage, now and for their future.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Charlotte Farrington, CEO and founder of YCC, about her journey, the charity’s impactful work, and how everyone can make a difference this Christmas.
Can you share a bit about yourself and your background?
Interestingly, my journey didn’t start in the charity sector. I’ve always had a love for animals and even attended agricultural college.
Before discovering my passion for the industry, I worked in marketing and eventually found my true calling as regional development director at Variety, the Children’s Charity. They say the charity sector finds you, and once you spend time with the incredible children we support, you realise what a privilege it is.
What led you to found Yorkshire Children’s Charity?
After 10 years at Variety, I saw an opportunity to make a significant impact regionally in Yorkshire. During my maternity leave, i reached a turning point and thought. ”How hard can it be?”
The answer is: very hard! But the phenomenal support from out incredible community has made it an amazing journey.
I massively underestimated the power of the Yorkshire spirit. People here are passionate about their region and deeply committed to supporting local causes. Our success truly depends on those collective efforts. Together we can achieve amazing things for the children who need us most.
What’s your favourite thing about your role?
There are so many aspects I love about my job. Knowing we’re making a real difference in people’s lives is incredibly rewarding. Delivering warm winter coats to children who don’t have one when it’s snowing – that’s a day at work I’ll never forget.
I’m also lucky to work with an amazing board of trustees and a fantastic team. There’s no hierarchy and we’re all in this together. Being surrounded by people pulling in the same direction toward a shared goal is incredibly special.
How can people working at Wellington Place support Yorkshire Children’s Charity at this time of year?
There are loads of seasonal activities happening which people can sign up to and attend, from festive crafting to bauble decorating, and a percentage of every ticket purchased goes to YCC. It’s always encouraging to see people not only support our cause but also enjoy themselves along the way whether it be through wreath making or making lino printed cards.
You can also look out for donation stars in Wellington Place’s buildings which you scan the QR code to easily donate.
As well as monetary donations, Wellington Place will be collecting unwrapped gifts at Wellington Central for anyone who would like to purchase a physical gift for a child. YCC will then distribute them amongst our partners for children in need in the local area. You can find our gift suggestions here.
We’re immensely grateful to those who don’t just consider helping but actually put it into practice. Your support makes a massive difference for so many families.
What’s your biggest achievement?
Professionally, founding Yorkshire Children’s Charity is my biggest achievement. Personally, it’s having my two children. They were a long time in the making and something I thought I might never have. These achievements are incredibly meaningful.
What three words sum up Wellington Place to you, and why?
Ambitious, caring, and driven. Wellington Place strives for excellence but does so with genuine warmth and energy. Their approach is refreshing, combining ambition with heart. It’s this uplifting spirit that truly sets Wellington Place apart.
Thank you to Charlotte Farrington, CEO and founder of Yorkshire Children’s Charity.
Together, we can ensure that Yorkshire’s children face a brighter, more hopeful future. Find out more about how you can get involved with YCC to make a real difference this Christmas here.
